The Zebra finch

I have decided not to be so angry for a moment and write about my love for the Zebra finch. At first glance this bird may not seem like much but a social animal like this one, makes for a very amusing pet. I bought my finch pair two years ago. At first, I wasn’t really sure what to do with them, besides just watch em’ fly around the cage. But as the days progressed I started to treat them more like family members than anything else. I first experimented by leaving their cage door open. The birds were more than willing to zip around the house to stretch their wings, and the best part of all is their always went back in when they were done. Good sign. The next step they took (as members of the house) was to get to know us.

Yes, social animals are interested in the ones who share their homes. Anyway, Any time I am at the computer or on the couch, the finches are right there at my feet. I find this VERY darling. After two years, My finches have grown confidence in my home. Many many times, my finches have been at my feet. If I need to stand up and walk by, they do not budge…how amazing Such a small animal can have faith (or stupidity) in the much larger animals, if treated right. This bond between man and animal always takes time, as long as it is done right. But just like raising a child, the rewards are very great in the end.
